the difference in this item would be that it has a mode where you insert a page, and it scans the page, bringing it up onto the screen for you to type onto (good for filling out forms, etc.) After filling out the form (or whatever), you would hit an “Etch” button maybe, and it would then proceed to transfer your text to the page.

Of course this could work with things other than word-processing, but printers are not so great at that kind of work (graphic, etc), at least at the home <$500 range.

Though if quality of printing weren’t an issue, touching up photos where you’d insert the photo, it would come up, and after your additions/changes “Etch”.
